HSK 3
HSK 3 Practice: 30 Questions, Listening and Explanations
HSK 3 is a transition level. You begin linking ideas, describing reasons and results, and reading passages that require attention across several sentences rather than one isolated pattern.

Who is this practice for?
For learners practising this HSK 2.0 level through vocabulary and sentences. For official papers, exam versions and registration, use Chinese Tests Service Website. Writing tasks at a level do not imply that its official exam has a writing section.
Quick answer
MandarinGo provides 30 original questions on this page: 28 text questions and 2 listening questions using 1 synthesized Mandarin audio clip(s). Public questions, answers, explanations, transcripts and pinyin need no sign-in. For HSK 3 practice, combine vocabulary in context, sentence construction and independent recall. Use the level-specific tasks below to identify a grammar gap, compare a model and try a new variation. MandarinGo’s HSK 2.0 level labels organize learning difficulty; these tasks are not official exam questions or a score prediction.

Audio file (MP3)Chinese transcript
我本来想星期六去图书馆,可是那天有事,所以改到星期天上午。图书馆九点开门,我准备十点到,借两本书。
Pinyin support
Wǒ běnlái xiǎng xīngqīliù qù túshūguǎn, kěshì nà tiān yǒu shì, suǒyǐ gǎi dào xīngqītiān shàngwǔ. Túshūguǎn jiǔ diǎn kāimén, wǒ zhǔnbèi shí diǎn dào, jiè liǎng běn shū.
English meaning
I originally planned to visit the library on Saturday, but I am busy that day, so I changed it to Sunday morning. The library opens at nine. I plan to arrive at ten and borrow two books.
Shadow this sentence
我本来想星期六去,可是那天有事,所以改到星期天。
Listening cues and practice method
Separate the original plan from the final arrangement. Stress 本来, 可是 and 所以 when shadowing. Nine is the opening time; ten is the planned arrival time.
You can check one question at a time, or answer every question and check the complete set. Retry clears only incorrect choices.
Try it with a real sentence
Chinese example
虽然下雨,但是我还是想出去。
- Pinyin
- Suīrán xiàyǔ, dànshì wǒ háishi xiǎng chūqù.
- Meaning
- Although it is raining, I still want to go out.
- Why it works
- 虽然 introduces a concession; 但是 adds the contrasting result. 还是 means “still” in this sentence.
Your turn
Say: Although I am tired, I still want to study.
Show answer and explanation

Learning standard: HSK 2.0, levels 1–6. This is a learning guide, not an official exam specification.
What to practise
Work on linking words, complements, 把/被 introductions and paragraph-level comprehension. Explain each answer in simple language before reading the supplied explanation.
A repeatable session
Start with one retrieval question, read the explanation, write or say one related sentence, and finish with due mistakes. Keep the session short enough to repeat tomorrow. Progress comes from successful retrieval across days, not from seeing the same material many times in one sitting.
How to measure progress
Track accuracy on new questions separately from scheduled review. Also note whether you can produce a sentence without copying a model. A rising first-attempt accuracy and fewer repeated mistake patterns are more useful signals than raw time spent.
Use the level as guidance
MandarinGo currently organizes practice with the familiar HSK 2.0 scale for levels 1–6. HSK 3 labels learning difficulty; they do not make an exercise an official exam question or guarantee an exam result.
Practice checklist and model answers
How to practise effectively
Read the task, cover the model and answer independently. Compare the highlighted pattern, then change one detail and try again. These are original learning tasks, not official exam questions.
Task
Use 虽然……但是…… to explain going out despite the rain.
One possible answer
虽然下雨,但是我还是要去上课。
Check your answer
虽然 introduces the difficulty; 但是 introduces the contrasting choice. Keep both clauses logical.
Task
Turn 我没听懂 into a polite request.
One possible answer
我没听懂,请你再说一遍,好吗?
Check your answer
State the difficulty, then politely request repetition. 没听懂 means not having understood.
