SPEAKING IN CONTEXT
Hotel check-in in Chinese: confirm your room and breakfast
At check-in, state the booking name and room details, then ask what is included before agreeing to an extra. Hearing where breakfast is served does not tell you whether your rate includes it. A clear follow-up question prevents that misunderstanding.

English meaning
Hello, I reserved a single room for two nights, under the surname Lin. Hello, Mr Lin. Your room is ready. Breakfast is on the second floor, from seven to ten in the morning. Is breakfast included in the room rate? Your booking does not include it; you can buy it separately if you wish. Okay, I will not buy it for now. Thank you.

Listening cues and practice method
Serving breakfast and including it in the room rate are different facts. Not buying for now does not promise a later purchase.
Read the dialogue by role
- Guest
- Receptionist

Keep booking facts separate
两晚 tells you the stay length; 单人间 tells you the room type; 姓林 identifies the booking surname. Two nights does not mean two rooms. When a detail differs from your booking, ask to check it before moving on.
Availability does not establish inclusion
The receptionist first gives breakfast’s place and time. The guest then asks whether it is included and learns that this order excludes it. The lesson does not state a breakfast price; inventing one would go beyond the dialogue.
我先不买 politely declines for now. It neither purchases breakfast nor commits to buying it tomorrow. To ask the price, use 如果单独购买,多少钱? before making a decision.
Practise a clarification, not just a script
Take the guest’s role and pause after the breakfast information. Ask the inclusion question yourself before opening the transcript. On a second pass, change the room to a double room and the stay to three nights while keeping the questions polite.
Swap a phrase and change one condition
Change one condition at a time and keep the remaining facts consistent. These alternatives are not synonyms.
Common pitfalls: wording, context and information
A response for this context
晚 counts nights and 间 counts rooms. The number of nights does not establish the number of rooms.
A response for this context
A service being available does not establish that it is included or free. Ask the separate inclusion question.
Answer first, then check the reasoning
1. What room type and length of stay does the guest state?
Answer and explanation
A single room for two nights is stated. The dialogue does not request two rooms; 两晚 counts nights.
2. Does breakfast on the second floor mean breakfast is included?
Answer and explanation
No. The later reply explicitly says this booking excludes it. Location and inclusion answer different questions.
3. What breakfast price is stated?
Answer and explanation
No price is stated. You can ask 如果单独购买,多少钱? Do not turn an unspecified price into “free”.
Answer three prompts in your own words
Speak first, then draft if helpful. Drafts stay on this page, are not uploaded and are not automatically graded. The references are possible answers, not the only answers.
1. You booked a double room for three nights under the surname Chen. Introduce the booking, ask whether breakfast is included, and ask the price if it is extra. Do not agree to buy yet.
Reference and self-check
Keep Chen, three nights and a double room. Your last question requests information and does not authorize a purchase.
2. You booked a single room, but the receptionist says double room. Ask them to check the room type politely.
Reference and self-check
State the mismatch and ask to check it; no need to invent a booking number.
3. You know breakfast is extra but have not decided to buy it. Ask its price and say you will decide later.
Reference and self-check
Keep asking the price separate from agreeing to purchase. Do not invent a price.
